History

Yobito Station opened on 1 September 1923 with the construction of a new section of the Ministry of Railways' Abashiri Line between Memambetsu and Abashiri, on the eastern shore of Lake Abashiri in what is now the city of Abashiri. The line was renamed the Abashiri Main Line in November of that year and then the Sekihoku Main Line in 1961. Freight handling ended in 1974 and parcels in 1983, with CTC signalling making the station unmanned the same year. JR Hokkaido took over at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. From the 15 March 2025 timetable revision the rapid 'Kitami' was extended through to Abashiri and began stopping at Yobito, while a newly created early-morning local now passes through.

Notes

Singer Yusuke Hashiri released a single titled 'Yobito-eki' on 10 January 2010, taking its name and theme from the station.
