History
Genseikaen Station is a seasonal halt on the Senmō Main Line in Koshimizu Town, serving as the nearest stop to the Koshimizu Genseikaen wild-flower meadows. It opened on 1964-06-01 as a JNR provisional halt (kari-jōkōjō) handling passengers only, was discontinued on 1978-10-02, and was reopened by JR Hokkaido as a temporary station on 1987-07-01. Operating dates vary year to year; in 2024 it served trains from 25 April to 31 October. The unstaffed single-platform station is managed from Shiretoko-Shari and has a log-cabin-style building. Soon after the JR-era reopening, Shari Station dispatched staff during the day to sell tickets, commemorative passes, orange cards, and souvenirs to tourists. On 2025-03-16 the station name sign was blown down by strong winds during the off-season.
