History
Antaroma Station opened on 15 November 1923 when the Railway Ministry extended the Sekihoku Line from Aibetsu to Kamikawa. The route was renamed Sekihoku West Line in 1927, absorbed into the Sekihoku Line in 1932, and redesignated the Sekihoku Main Line in 1961. Freight handling ended in late 1975 and luggage service in early 1984; the station became fully unstaffed in November 1984 after CTC signalling was rolled out. JR Hokkaido inherited the stop at privatisation on 1 April 1987, and the simple modern station building dates from November 1988, when ground-equipment upgrades also shortened limited-express running times through the area.
