History
Biruwa Station (number B65) is on the JR Hokkaido Senmō Main Line in Teshikaga, Kawakami District, Hokkaido. It opened on 20 August 1930 as a station of the Japanese Government Railways, was inherited by JR Hokkaido on 1 April 1987 at the Japanese National Railways breakup, and from March 2016 became a stop on the rapid "Shiretoko-Mashū" service. Teshikaga, in the northern reaches of the Kushiro Subprefecture, sits at the foot of the Kussharo Caldera and the Mashū Caldera on its eastern side, with the Kushiro River running through it; about 70% of the town's area is mountain forest, and per Teshikaga's Wikipedia article tourism and dairy farming are its main industries, with Lake Mashū, Lake Kussharo, Mashū Onsen and Kawayu Onsen drawing visitors from across Japan.
