History

Asabu Station opened on 16 March 1978 on the Sapporo Municipal Subway's Namboku Line, in the same opening as the line's extension from this point south to Kita-Nijūyojō. The station has formed the northern terminus of the Namboku Line ever since, and its turn-back arrangements vary by season: from 1 April to 31 July platform 1 dispatches southbound trains and arriving services use platform 2 before reversing beyond the station, while from 1 August through 31 March both platforms handle arrivals and departures in sequence. Although Asabu lies close to Shin-Kotoni Station on the Sasshō Line, the two stations are not connected by a passageway.

Notes

Despite sitting roughly 200 m from the Sasshō Line's Shin-Kotoni Station, the only way to transfer between the two is to leave Asabu via Exit 3 and walk the connecting block above ground.
