History

Nishi 15-chōme Stop (SC04) is on the Sapporo Streetcar Ichijō Line and Yamahana-nishi Line in Chūō-ku, Sapporo. It opened on 12 August 1918 as the western terminus of the Sapporo Electric Tramway Ichijō Line, the line was extended west in December 1921, the operator was municipalised in December 1927, and the Yamahana-nishi Line opened on 23 November 1931. The Yamahana-nishi Line was re-routed and double-tracked on 16 December 1950, requiring the stop to be moved to its present location; the stop was renamed Kōtsū-kyoku-mae on 1 July 1958, the Ichijō Line section between Idaidaigaku-mae (Medical University Hospital) and Maruyama-kōen was abolished on 1 April 1973, and the name reverted to Nishi 15-chōme on 1 November 1982. A 2018 renovation completed in December that year widened the safety islands.

Notes

Nishi 15-chōme sits in a Sapporo medical district — Sapporo Medical University Hospital, Nakamura Memorial Hospital and NTT East Sapporo Hospital are all within walking distance — so commuters to the hospitals make up a sizeable share of the stop's daily riders.
