History

Shiroishi (Sapporo Municipal Subway) opened on 10 June 1976 as the eastern terminus of the new Tōzai Line, on the same day that service from Kotoni to Shiroishi was inaugurated. When the line was extended from Shiroishi to Shin-Sapporo on 21 March 1982, the station became an intermediate stop. Platform-edge sliding doors began operating on 11 November 2008. Exit 6 was closed from 19 January 2015 for the construction of the Shiroishi Ward Complex Building, then reopened on 19 October 2016 as part of that complex, and connected directly to the complex from 7 November 2016. Station number T13.

Notes

Although JR Hokkaido also operates a Shiroishi Station (Hakodate / Chitose lines), the two are about 1.6 km apart and are not designed as transfer points. The construction-era provisional name for the subway station was 'Kanjō-dōri'. Sapporo City has designated this subway station as one at risk of flood inundation from the Mochiyozamu River.
