History
Makomanai Station opened on 16 December 1971 as the southern terminus of the newly built Namboku Line of the Sapporo Municipal Subway, which then ran north to Kita-Nijuyo-Jo Station. The opening was timed to provide rapid-transit access ahead of the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics. The station, located in Minami-ku, has carried the station number N16 since the subway's numbering scheme was introduced, and remains the line's south terminus, serving the Salmon Museum, the Makomanai Open Stadium and the surrounding park complex.
