History

Konbu Station opened on 1904-10-15 as an intermediate stop on the private Hokkaido Railway when the line was extended from Utashutsu (now Neppu) to Kozawa, completing through running between Hakodate and Otaru. After nationalisation on 1907-07-01, the route was redesignated the Hakodate Main Line on 1909-10-12. Freight handling ended in September 1974 and parcel service in March 1982, when the station also became an unstaffed simple-commission stop. Crossing equipment and crew positions were withdrawn on 1986-11-01, and JR Hokkaido took over operations at the JNR breakup on 1987-04-01. Full unstaffing followed on 1992-04-01, and station numbering S26 was introduced in October 2007.
