History
Kamaya Station is a station on the South Hokkaido Railway Line in the town of Kikonai, Hokkaidō, operated by the South Hokkaido Railway Company. The station opened on 25 October 1930 as part of the then JNR Esashi Line. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, the station came under JR Hokkaido. When the Hokkaido Shinkansen began service on 26 March 2016, operations on the Esashi Line between Goryōkaku and Kikonai were transferred from JR Hokkaido to the newly established third-sector South Hokkaido Railway Company, under whose management Kamaya has remained since.
