History
Chikagawa Station opened on 1921-09-25 as a stop on what became the Ōminato Line in Mutsu, Aomori Prefecture. Freight handling was discontinued and the station was unstaffed from 1972-03-15. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1987-04-01, operations passed to JR East. The station's footprint reflects that history: it was originally built with two opposed side platforms, but the southbound track was lifted and today a single side platform carries bidirectional traffic. Eki-net Q Chiket service started on 2024-10-01, and the unattended stop sits about 42.7 km from the line's terminus at Noheji Station.
