History

Imabetsu Station opened on 1958-10-21 as a stop on the Japanese National Railways Tsugaru Line in the town of Imabetsu, Aomori Prefecture. The station was contracted out in 1970, parcel handling ended in 1983, and JR East took over at privatisation on 1987-04-01; it has been fully unstaffed since 2003-07-01. A 2017 renovation expanded the waiting room and added a flush toilet. Services have been suspended since heavy rain damaged the track north of Kanita on 2022-08-03, with substitute buses since 2022-08-22, and on 2025-06-10 the operator and local authorities agreed to abolish the station on 2027-04-01.
