History

Mutsu-Yokohama Station opened on 20 March 1921 as a Japanese Government Railways station on the Ōminato Line, 30.1 km north of the line's starting point at Noheji. Freight operations were discontinued on 15 March 1973. The station passed to JR East at the 1 April 1987 privatisation of the Japanese National Railways. The station has a single unnumbered island platform serving two tracks plus a short spur for maintenance moves, with the platform reached from the small station building via a level crossing. The station is unattended. It is also served by the limited-express Shimokita running between Hachinohe and Ōminato.
