History

Ushirogata Station opened on 1951-12-05 as a stop on the Japanese National Railways Tsugaru Line in what is now the city of Aomori. Small-lot freight handling ended on 1958-10-21, and all freight services were discontinued on 1968-07-21. On 1983-03-10 the passing loop was removed, parcel handling ended, and the station was placed under simplified contracted operation (managed by the local agricultural cooperative). JR East took over on 1987-04-01, and the station has been unattended since September 2009. Its short side platform requires longer trains to use selective door operation, and it lies 14.7 km from the line's terminus at Aomori.
