History

Narusawa Station opened on May 15, 1925 as a Japanese National Railways stop on the Gonō Line, serving the rural community of Ajigasawa, 108.3 kilometres from the line terminus at Higashi-Noshiro. Freight and parcels handling were discontinued on October 1, 1971, when the station also became unstaffed, with a single attendant rotating in for daytime passenger service until simplified consignment took over in 1972. With the privatisation of JNR on April 1, 1987, operational control passed to JR East. A new station building, of restrained timber construction with few windows, was completed in August 2012; Eki-net Q-Chike service began on October 1, 2024.
