History
Naijōshi Station opened on 15 April 1935 as a stop on the Japanese Government Railways' Ōu Main Line, serving the village of Watoku (now part of Hirosaki) in Aomori Prefecture. The station's name, written 撫牛子 and pronounced "Naijōshi," is one of the line's better-known difficult-to-read place names. Parcel handling ended on 1 October 1971 and the station has been unstaffed since the same date. It passed to JR East at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. Suica IC-card service became available on 27 May 2023. Trains on the Gonō Line, although technically terminating at adjacent Kawabe Station, continue through Naijōshi to reach Hirosaki.

Notes
Although the Gonō Line's official terminus is one stop away at Kawabe, every Gonō Line train continues past Kawabe through Naijōshi to terminate at Hirosaki for the convenience of through passengers.
