History

Hirokōshita Station opened on 26 January 1952 with the inauguration of the Hirosaki Electric Railway's line through western Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture. The line was transferred to the Kōnan Railway on 1 October 1970, and Hirokōshita is now served by the Kōnan Railway Ōwani Line, 13.1 km from the southern terminus at Ōwani. Since 5 August 1974 the station has been operated as a kan'i itaku consignment stop, with the station building functioning only as a weather shelter and no permanent ticket office. The station name derives from the popular shortened form of nearby Hirosaki High School, "Hirokō."
