History

Chitose Station opened on 26 January 1952 as Tsugaru-Chitose Station (津軽千年駅) with the inauguration of the Kōnan Railway Ōwani Line in Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture. Following the transfer of the Hirosaki Electric Railway to the Kōnan Railway on 1 October 1970, the station was renamed simply Chitose on 1 April 1986. Day-to-day operations were consigned to outside staff from 15 December 1975 onward, and the station has been fully unstaffed since around 2007. The single island platform serves two tracks and is connected to the station building by a level crossing, with a small waiting room on the platform.

Notes

The English signage on platform romanises the station as "Titose" rather than the more conventional "Chitose," preserving the older Nihon-shiki transliteration.
