History
Kitatakaiwa Station opened on 10 August 1923 as a station of the Tōhoku Main Line under Japan National Railways (JNR), serving the city of Hachinohe in Aomori Prefecture. Freight operations were withdrawn in April 1962, and the station has been unstaffed since May 1980. Following the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR, the station passed to East Japan Railway Company (JR East). When the Tōhoku Shinkansen was extended to Hachinohe on 1 December 2002, the parallel conventional line north of Morioka was separated from JR East, and Kitatakaiwa became a station of the third-sector Aoimori Railway Company. It now sits 21.0 km from the line's southern terminus at Metoki.
