History
Tomabechi Station opened on 15 August 1961 as a station on the Tōhoku Main Line under Japan National Railways (JNR), serving the town of Nanbu in Aomori Prefecture. A passing loop was added in November 1962. Freight operations ended in April 1962, and the station has been operated without staff since then. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR the station came under the control of East Japan Railway Company (JR East). On 1 December 2002, when the Tōhoku Shinkansen was extended to Hachinohe, the parallel conventional line was transferred to the third-sector Aoimori Railway Company. The ticket vending machine on site was withdrawn on 28 February 2017. The station lies 18.2 km from the southern terminus at Metoki.
