History
Rikuchū-Yagi Station opened on 1 November 1925 as a passenger station on the Hachinohe Line, in what is now the town of Hirono in Iwate Prefecture. Following the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japan National Railways, the station came under the operational control of East Japan Railway Company (JR East). A new station building and waiting room were completed in March 2008. The station has two opposed ground-level side platforms serving two tracks, connected to the station building by a level crossing, and is unstaffed. It is located 43.1 km from the line's terminus at Hachinohe.
