History
Sawame Station opened on 26 April 1926 as a station on the Japanese Government Railways (JGR), serving the village of Sawame in Akita Prefecture. The JGR became Japan National Railways (JNR) after World War II, and with the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR the station passed to East Japan Railway Company (JR East). It is served by the Gonō Line and is located 14.1 km from the line's southern terminus at Higashi-Noshiro. The station has a single side platform serving one bidirectional track and is unstaffed.
