History

Kazuno-Hanawa Station opened on 1923-10-10 as Rikuchū-Hanawa Station on the privately operated Akita Railway, serving the town of Hanawa in Akita Prefecture. The Akita Railway was nationalised on 1934-06-01 and absorbed into the Japanese Government Railways, which became Japan National Railways after the Second World War. The station passed to JR East at the 1987-04-01 privatisation. It was renamed to its present form, Kazuno-Hanawa Station, on 1995-12-01. The station is served by the Hanawa Line at the 69.7-kilometre mark from the line terminus at Kōma Station, with one island platform serving two tracks and a Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office.
