History

Aikawa Station opened on 10 December 1934 as Ugo-Kamiono Station, serving the village of Ono in Akita on a Japan National Railways branch line that was extended to Aniai Station by 25 September 1936. It was renamed Aikawa on 1 April 1956. With the conversion of the route on 1 November 1986, the station passed from JNR to the third-sector Akita Nairiku Jukan Railway, becoming a stop on what is now the Akita Nairiku Line. The station today is unattended, with a single island platform connected to the building by a level crossing.

Notes

A 1955 fire that began at the then Ugo-Kamiono Station spread to the surrounding shopping district and destroyed 51 buildings in total.
