History
Tayama Station opened on 25 October 1929 as a Ministry of Railways stop serving the village of Tayama in what is now Hachimantai, Iwate. Freight was discontinued in November 1982 and luggage handling in February 1984. In November 1986 the passing loop was removed and the station became unstaffed, with personnel dispatched from Arayashimmachi Station until that arrangement ended on 4 December 1999. The station passed to JR East on 1 April 1987 at the JNR privatisation, and a simplified building replaced the older one in February 2004. Administration moved to Morioka Station on 1 June 2018.
