History
Yonaizawa Station opened on 10 December 1934 as the then-terminus of the Japan National Railways' Aniai Line, serving the town of Yonaizawa in Akita. The line was extended on 15 November 1935 to Aniai-Maeda (now Aniai-Maeda-Onsen) Station. The wooden station building was destroyed by fire in December 1954 and rebuilt by 6 May 1955. Freight handling ended in March 1980 and luggage in February 1984. On 1 November 1986 the line passed to the third-sector Akita Nairiku Jukan Railway. Today it is an unstaffed simple-consignment stop with one side platform and a disused former exchange platform.

Notes
When a train arrives at the platform, the station plays "Hamabe no Uta," composed by Tameichi Narita, a son of Yonaizawa.
