History

Yokoma Station opened on November 1, 1966 as an unstaffed stop on the Japan National Railways (JNR) Hanawa Line, then serving the town of Ashiro, Iwate Prefecture. With the April 1, 1987 JNR privatisation it was absorbed into JR East's network. From June 1, 2018, administration moved from the commissioned Ōbuke Station to Morioka Station. The station consists of a single ground-level side platform serving one bi-directional track and has no station building, only a small platform shelter. Yokoma sits in a rural farming area 40.3 kilometres from the line's start at Kōma, with few buildings in the immediate vicinity.
