History

Ani-Maeda-Onsen Station opened on 1935-11-15 as Ani-Maeda Station of the Ministry of Railways' Aniai Line, then the line's terminus in what is now Kita-Akita. The line was extended to Aniai on 1936-09-25, making it an intermediate station. Freight handling on the general line ended in 1980 and on private sidings in 1982; parcels ended in February 1984. With the JNR closure on 1986-11-01 the line was taken over by the Akita Inland Jūkan Railway. The current station building, opened in December 1995, includes the 'Quince Moriyoshi' spa, the first onsen-equipped station building in Akita and a 2002 Tōhoku Top 100 Stations selection. Lodging rooms were added on 2017-12-25, and the station was renamed Ani-Maeda-Onsen on 2021-03-13. A landslide closed the Aniai end of the line in February 2017; through services resumed on 2017-04-29.

Notes

A spa facility called "Quince Moriyoshi", attached to the station building, was the first onsen-equipped station building in Akita Prefecture and was selected as one of the Tōhoku Top 100 Stations in 2002.
