History

Kobuchi Station opened on 25 September 1936 as an unstaffed Japanese Government Railways stop on the Aniai Line, serving the town of Ani in Akita. After the war the JGR became JNR, and the line was eventually extended to Hitachinai Station on 15 October 1963. The line was privatised on 1 November 1986, when the station passed to the third-sector Akita Nairiku Jukan Railway. In February 2017 a landslide between the station and Aniai forced the suspension of services between Aniai-Maeda and Aniai; bus substitution covered the gap until full reopening on 29 April 2017. The station has been unstaffed throughout its existence.

Notes

A local shopkeeper received JNR permission in 1968 to lay out a garden inside the station grounds; volunteer-tended descendants of that garden still surround the platform today.
