History
Kayakusa Station opened on October 15, 1963 as an unstaffed stop on the Japan National Railways (JNR) Aniai Line, then serving the town of Ani in Akita Prefecture. With the privatisation of the line on November 1, 1986, the route was transferred from JNR to the third-sector Akita Nairiku Jūkan Railway, which continues to operate the station today. The site consists of a single side platform serving one bi-directional track and has no station building, only a small waiting shelter on the platform. Kayakusa is 38.1 kilometres from the line's terminus at Takanosu Station.
