History

Iwanome Station opened on 15 October 1963 as a stop on the Japanese National Railways (JNR) Aniai Line, serving the town of Ani in what is now Kitaakita, Akita Prefecture, and has been unstaffed since opening. When the line was privatised on 1 November 1986 the station was transferred to the third-sector Akita Nairiku Jūkan Railway, and now sits at 43.3 kilometres along the Nairiku Line from the northern terminus at Takanosu. The single side platform serves a bidirectional track from a small shelter; no station building exists.

Notes

In September 2025 students from the local Ani Gakuen school painted murals depicting regional specialities directly onto the exterior walls of the platform shelter.
