History
Ani-Matagi Station opened on April 1, 1989, in what was then the town of Ani in Akita Prefecture, on the Akita Nairiku Jūkan Railway. Its inauguration coincided with the launch of services on the central segment of the Nairiku Line between Matsuba and Hitachinai, the final stretch needed to connect the network end to end. The station consists of a single side platform along one bi-directional track and is unstaffed. It sits 52.3 kilometres from the line's terminus at Takanosu Station, in mountainous terrain near Yasu Falls, listed among Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls.
