History

Ōbuke Station opened on 27 August 1922 as a Japanese National Railways (JNR) stop on what is now the Hanawa Line, serving the village of Ōbuke in Iwate Prefecture. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR East. A new station building offering free pass-through pedestrian access between either side of the tracks opened on 23 February 2018, and the stop retains a Midori-no-Madoguchi reserved-ticket counter — unusually for a small Hanawa Line station.
