History
Ikawa-Sakura Station opened on December 1, 1995 as a new infill stop on the Ōu Main Line between Ugo-Iizuka and Hachirōgata, serving the town of Ikawa, Akita Prefecture. The staffed station has two opposed side platforms connected by an underground passageway, and its station building also houses a community centre, reading room and cafe. From April 1, 2010, administration of the station shifted from Hachirōgata Station to Tsuchizaki Station, with ticket window duties carried out by the town as a simplified commission. It is operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East).

Notes
The station's name, drawn from the cherry-blossom destination Nihon Kokka-en nearby, is so often mistaken for a Japanese personal name that it has topped multiple "stations that sound like people's names" online polls.
