History
Okuani Station opened on April 1, 1989, in what was then the town of Ani in Akita Prefecture, on the Akita Nairiku Jūkan Railway. Its opening coincided with the start of services along the central section of the Nairiku Line between Matsuba and Hitachinai, completing the full Takanosu-Kakunodate corridor. The station has a single side platform serving one bi-directional track and is unstaffed, with no station building. Located 49.7 kilometres from the line's terminus at Takanosu Station, it sits along Akita Prefectural Route 308 in a rural stretch of the city of Kitaakita.
