History

Tozawa Station opened on 1 April 1989 as a stop on the Akita Nairiku Jūkan Railway, serving the village of Nishiki in Akita Prefecture. The opening coincided with the inauguration of the central section of the Nairiku Line between Matsuba and Hitachinai, which connected the previously separate northern and southern segments of the line. The unstaffed stop consists of a single side platform serving a bidirectional track, with only a shelter built on the platform rather than a full station building.

Notes

At 315 metres above sea level Tozawa is the highest railway station in Akita Prefecture — the platform shelter even carries a sign celebrating the fact.
