History

Toyomane Station opened on 17 November 1935 as a Japanese Government Railways station on the Yamada Line in what is now Yamada, Iwate Prefecture. Freight handling ceased in 1973, parcel service was discontinued in 1984, and the station became unstaffed in November 1986. JR East assumed operation at the JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987. Service along the Miyako–Kamaishi segment was suspended after the 11 March 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. Once that section was rebuilt and transferred to the Sanriku Railway on 23 March 2019, Toyomane became an intermediate station on the unified Rias Line, with a single side platform serving bi-directional traffic.
