History
Daigo Station first opened on 25 July 1950 as Daigo Temporary Stopping-Point in Daigo Village, Hiraka District, also handling ticket sales. It was upgraded to a regular station on 15 November 1951. Parcel handling was abolished and the station was made unstaffed on 1 December 1970. It passed to JR East on 1 April 1987 at the JNR privatisation, and the Eki-net Q-Chiket service started on 1 October 2024. The original wooden station building gave way late in the JNR era to a building made from a converted freight car, which was in turn replaced by the present building in November 2006.

Notes
The cover of the Alice single "Toku de Kiteki o Kikinagara" features the un-electrified Daigo Station; since the Uzen-Chitose–Akita section including this station was electrified on 13 October 1975, the photograph must have been taken before that date.
