History
Heita Station opened on 1 April 1984 as a station on Sanriku Railway's Minami-Rias Line. On 11 March 2011 the Great East Japan Earthquake left the entire Minami-Rias Line out of service and station operations suspended. Service resumed on 5 April 2014 when the Yoshihama–Kamaishi section was restored. Service was again suspended between Sanriku and Kamaishi on 2 March 2025 because of the Ōfunato forest fire, and resumed on 9 March 2025.

Notes
Heita Station's nickname is "Isaribi Daikannon" ("Fishing-light Great Kannon"), taken from the view of the Kamaishi Daikannon visible from the platform. The station is a single elevated side platform with one bi-directional track and is unstaffed.
