History

Kamiarisu Station opened on 10 October 1950 on the Kamaishi Line in the town of Sumita, Kesen District, Iwate Prefecture. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, the station was transferred to East Japan Railway Company. The original station building has been removed, leaving only a small platform shelter, and the station is unattended. It lies 65.4 rail kilometres from the line's terminus at Hanamaki Station.
