History
Mataki Station opened on 1925-07-26 as a general station on the Ōfunato Line in what is now Ichinoseki, Iwate Prefecture. Freight handling ended on 1961-10-01 and parcel handling on 1984-02-01, with the station made unattended on 1986-11-01. It transferred to JR East at the 1987-04-01 privatisation of the Japanese National Railways, and the present waiting room came into use in January 1998. The station has two opposed side platforms linked by an in-station level crossing and a comparatively spacious waiting room. It is managed remotely from Ichinoseki Station.
