History

Minamino Station opened on 1959-05-15 on the Rikuu West Line between Karikawa and Amarume in what is now Shōnai, Yamagata Prefecture, more than four decades after local towns first petitioned the Railway Board for a station in 1917. It passed to JR East at the 1987-04-01 privatisation of the Japanese National Railways. On 2022-05-14 rail services were suspended for tunnel construction related to the Takaya Road project, and the station operated only as a substitute-bus stop until rail service resumed on 2026-01-16. The station has a single side platform with only a small waiting shelter and is managed remotely from Shinjō Station.
