History

Umegasawa Station is on JR East's Tōhoku Main Line in Tome, Miyagi Prefecture. It opened on 20 July 1943 as a signal stop and was promoted to a station on 2 March 1953. It was unstaffed from 1 December 1984 and came under JR East on 1 April 1987. The wooden mortar-finished station building was replaced by a simple concrete structure in 2001. Two opposed side platforms with a footbridge connect to the station building; an island-platform layout briefly created by 1958 double-tracking has since reverted to two-track with the inner middle line removed.

Notes

Umegasawa stands in a hill area, with houses in scattered clumps. The local community bus operated by Hasama serves "Umegasawa Station Front" — but boarding requires the rider to raise a hand to flag the bus down, and alighting takes place at the post office a short distance away.
