History
Maeyachi Station is a junction stop in the city of Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, operated by JR East. The station opened on 28 October 1912 and today serves both the Ishinomaki Line and the Kesennuma Line, marking the southern terminus of the latter. Through services on the Yanaizu Line began in December 1968 and were renamed and extended to Motoyoshi as the Kesennuma Line in 1977. The station was absorbed into JR East at the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987. After the March 2011 Tōhoku earthquake severed the Kesennuma Line beyond Yanaizu, a provisional bus rapid transit service replaced rail north of the station.
