History

Higashi-Yamoto Station opened on 31 March 1987, one day before the dissolution of Japanese National Railways, and was inherited by JR East on its inaugural day the next morning. The single-platform halt sits on the Senseki Line 41.6 km from Aoba-dōri and is unstaffed. The 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami of 11 March 2011 forced the line to close, with provisional bus services running in place of trains. Rail service through this station was restored in stages: to Ishinomaki on 16 July 2011, west to Rikuzen-Ono on 17 March 2012, and finally the full line through Rikuzen-Ono toward Sendai on 30 May 2015.
