History
Jimmachi Station opened on 23 August 1901 on what is now the Ōu Main Line, 106.3 km from the line's origin at Fukushima. The station originally had a side platform and an island platform serving two through tracks; with the conversion of one Ōu Main Line track to standard gauge for the Yamagata Shinkansen, the island platform was removed and the freed alignment used for a non-stop shinkansen track, leaving Jimmachi with a single side platform. The station became part of JR East at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 and is unstaffed. Yamagata Airport and JGSDF Camp Jinmachi lie nearby.
