History

Rikuzen-Hamada Station opened on 18 April 1927 as Hamada Station on the privately built Miyagi Electric Railway, in what is today the town of Rifu, Miyagi Prefecture. After the line was nationalised on 1 May 1944 the station was renamed to its present form, and it passed to East Japan Railway Company on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of JNR. The unstaffed single-platform stop is the only Senseki Line station inside Rifu and sits 20.3 rail kilometres from the line's terminus at Aoba-dōri. The station was closed from 11 March to 28 May 2011 by damage from the Tōhoku earthquake tsunami.

Notes

The Tōhoku Main Line runs almost parallel to the Senseki Line through here, but the closest Tōhoku Line stop is several kilometres away at Matsushima.
