History
Takatama Station opened on 5 March 1952 on the Ōu Main Line in the city of Tendō, Yamagata Prefecture, operated by East Japan Railway Company. The unstaffed station has a single side platform serving one bi-directional track and sits 97.0 rail kilometres from the line's terminus at Fukushima. It was absorbed into the JR East network on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways. A new station building was completed in 1999. The surrounding area is largely a dormitory community giving way to rice fields and the mountains, with Uyō-Gakuen College the principal nearby institution.
