History

Yaotome Station opened on 15 July 1987 on the Sendai Subway Namboku Line in Izumi-ku, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. It is an elevated station with a single island platform serving two tracks on the third floor of the building, with the concourse, ticketing and wicket gates one floor below. Until the line was extended north to Izumi-Chūō on 15 July 1992, Yaotome was the line's northern terminus and a key transfer point for buses serving the suburbs of Tomiya and Izumi. Service was suspended from 11 March to 29 April 2011 after the Tōhoku earthquake damaged the platform's steel-column supports.

Notes

A privately built Sendai Railway also operated an unrelated Yaotome Station near here from 1929 until 1950, several decades before the subway arrived.
