History

Kuromatsu Station opened on 15 July 1987 as part of the original Sendai Subway Namboku Line in Izumi-ku, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. It carries an island platform serving two tracks and is 2.5 rail kilometres from the line's northern terminus at Izumi-Chūō. Despite being commonly described as underground, the station actually sits in a long narrow valley between two plateaus, with the station building roofing over the cut — viewed from the surrounding neighbourhoods the platform appears to be below grade, but it is structurally at ground level. Service was suspended from 11 March 2011 to 29 April 2011 following the Tōhoku earthquake.

Notes

The station is named after the Kuromatsu housing development, opened in 1962 as the first large planned suburb in what was then Izumi-machi.
